Earlier in the morning, Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed a gathering of citizens in Argyroupoli, Rethymno, where he is touring, and referred to the first pre-election spots of SYRIZA.

“I was very impressed that SYRIZA chose yesterday to start the pre-election period with a “gray” spot, a “black” spot, which reminds of a very difficult moment that we all experienced as an internal trauma,” said the prime minister and added : “But also with some statements of his leader, where more or less what did he tell us? Let’s be careful, he says, of fake news, let’s be careful, he says, of fake opinion polls, defections, I don’t know what else.”

As Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out, “Mr. Tsipras is now laying the carpet for his electoral defeat. That’s what I understood from what he said. He is looking for excuses for what will happen at the ballot box on May 21,” noted the Prime Minister.

We will not follow SYRIZA in a gray campaign. Mr. Varoufakis talks about other payment systems, about the “Dimitra” system

“We have no desire to follow him in a gray campaign. We will remind the citizens of the four years of Tsipras. But we will do it with decency and citing real data.

We will remember what happened in the first half of 2015, not because we want to turn our minds to those times, but because what Mr. Tsipras has in mind as a “government of losers” – pay attention – presupposes a partnership and with PASOK and MeRA25.

And it is the same MeRA25 which tells us “it doesn’t matter if the banks are closed” and now it is discovering, it says, various other payment systems which it calls “Demitra”, I was also reading these today. So instead of euros we will be paid with “Dimitres”, I don’t know how they imagine it.

But this in their minds is the “government of the losers”, the so-called “progressive government”. Therefore, the citizens must know very well why they are voting and what the consequences of their vote will be”, emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The only substantial and real governance proposal is that of New Democracy

“That’s why I claim here, from my place, from Crete, that the only substantial and the only real governance proposal that is being proposed to the citizens today is the New Democracy proposal.

We have a program, we have a clear proposal for how the country should be governed, we insist on self-reliance not out of complacency but because we consider that self-reliance today is a condition of stability for the country, it is a condition for us to be able to make quick decisions and face crises .

Think for a moment what would happen if we had a coalition government on the Evros, say, and we had to consult with other co-leaders about whether to react quickly or effectively. It is the last thing we need today,” continued the Prime Minister.

The crucial ballot is on May 21st, it will send a clear message who should govern

“In closing, let me tell you that the crucial election, the only election where I am currently focusing my attention, is the May 21 ballot box. Will there be a government after May 21? We don’t know. Difficult because of simple analog.

The ballot box on May 21, however, will send a clear message about who should govern the country for the next four years. And the one who should rule the country, the New Democracy, the faction that should rule the country for the next four years is the New Democracy”, underlined Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “I always believed that Crete is a “treasure” in the primary sector”

Earlier, the Prime Minister visited the Creta Carob company, which specializes in the manufacture of carob products, using Greek raw materials. Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed about the great and growing demand for Cretan carob in foreign markets, primarily in Europe and Asia, while during the tour of the company’s store the importance of utilizing the quality food items offered by the Greek primary sector, in the context of the further promotion of the Greek brand.

“I have always believed that Crete is a “treasure” in the primary sector and not only for the obvious products, such as oil, which we have always been protagonists, but also our honey is making a very dynamic recovery and of course carob now. It is – I think – an indicative example of a primary sector initiative, where we take a product that had virtually no value and turn it into a product that we can standardize, we can export, we give more surplus value to our producers and at the same time the we also connect with our tourism, with the Cretan cuisine, with the Cretan diet”, noted the Prime Minister
