Professor of European Politics and Economics, Giorgos Pagoulatos assumes the position of Permanent Representative in the Permanent Greek Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (M.E.A. O.O.S.A.), as announced by the Ministry of Finance.

The appointment of Mr. Pagoulatos as Permanent Representative to the M.E.A. O.O.S.A. takes place following the end of the extended term of office of the outgoing Permanent Representative Georgiou-Stylianos Prevelakis.

The following is the biography of Mr. Pagoulatos:

Giorgos Pagoulatos was born in Athens in 1967. He is a graduate of the Standard School of Anavryton.

Professor of European Politics and Economics at the Department of International and European Economic Studies of the School of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (2011-present), Associate Professor (2006-2011) and Assistant Professor (2000-2006) at the same University. Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium (2006-present).

Director General of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) (2019-present), member of the Board of Directors of ELIAMEP since 2013. Unpaid European Affairs Advisor to the President of the Hellenic Republic (2020-present).

Member of the Council of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). Member of the Board of Directors of the European Policy Center (EPC) in Brussels (2015-2020). Member of the Supreme Council of the European University Institute (EUI) of Florence (2010-13).

He has been the President of the Hellenic University Association of European Studies (EPEES), and a member of administrative boards of scientific associations and civil society bodies. He was the National Representative for Greece at the Conference on the Future of Europe (2021-2022).

Member of the European Policy Center Working Group on Fiscal Governance in the EU, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) Informal Group on Fiscal Rules in the EU, and the EPC High Level Advisory Group for the Conference on Future of Europe (2021-2022). Member of the Research Advisory Group of the Hellenic Observatory of the LSE and the Advisory Committee of diaNEOSIS.

Member of the Editorial Board of academic journals, he has been an external evaluator of research proposals for the European Commission (FP5-FP6-FP7) and a reviewer in publishing houses (Oxford University Press, Palgrave Macmillan) and in the main international scientific journals of the sector. He has participated as a researcher in research programs and networks of excellence funded by the European Commission.

He is a graduate of the Law Department of the Law School of the University of Athens, holds a Master of Sociology and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Oxford (1997), where he studied on a Rhodes scholarship. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University, USA (1998-99) with a focus on Comparative Politics and Economics.

He has published books and numerous chapters in collective volumes and articles in the main international academic journals of the field. His monograph Greece’s New Political Economy: State, Finance and Growth from Postwar to EMU (Oxford St. Antony’s Series, Palgrave Macmillan, 2003) was awarded by the Academy of Athens.

He was Director of Strategic Planning and Advisor to Prime Ministers Loukas Papadimos and Panagiotis Pikramenou (2011-2012). From 2007 until today he is a regular columnist in the Sunday edition of the newspaper “Kathimerini”. His statements and interviews are often hosted in the international media. He speaks English and French.
