The party staffs have already taken the age stratifications into their hands and are preparing their next moves

The crucial element of this year’s electoral contest is the restoration of the simple proportional system that was last applied in April 1990. 33 years ago, Konstantinos Mitsotakis with a percentage of 46.89% and with the electoral system based on the “Koutsoiorgas law” had succeeded to gather only 150 MPs. In the simple proportional system the number of seats the combinations receive depends only on their national percentage, regardless of their result per electoral district. It does not produce strong majorities and favors only partnerships, as is the case in many European countries. The result results from the quotient of the percentage of each party with the percentage of forces represented in the Parliament over the total number of deputies.
Those registered in the electoral rolls amount to 9,810,040. 4,760,042 are men and 5,049,998 are women. About 170,000 less than in 2019. The party staffs have already taken the age stratifications into their own hands, knowing which ones are lagging behind, which are showing up stronger, preparing their last moves. Indicatively, 10.7% of voters are between 17-24 years old (937,788). The dynamic segment from 25-44 counts 3,093,241 Greek citizens and the next category, 45-54 years old, 1,434,244 voters. 2,724,439 citizens aged 55-79 are invited to the polls. The oldest, who have exceeded 80 years, constitute 6.5% of the electorate (565,332).
In this election due to the vote of the emigrants, the number of deputies from the State ballot has risen to 15 from 12 before. The elected results in essence from the distribution of the 285 seats among the country’s 59 electoral districts.
Right to vote in its general parliamentary elections May 21, 2023, as was done in 2019, citizens who have reached the age of 17 (born in 2006), are registered in the electoral rolls of the municipalities and have not been deprived of the right to vote. The estimated 25,000 expatriates will be invited to vote at 100 polling stations the day before the national elections. That is, Saturday, May 20.
On the night of the elections, everything is expected to develop more quickly. 25,000 tablets will be distributed to the judicial representatives and this is why it is expected that 25% of the results will be available by 20:00. At 21:00 the Ministry of the Interior will be able to announce 80%, while even the crucifixion will be known shortly before midnight.
