Their sovereignty has not been determined by the Lausanne and Paris treaties – there may be some tension tomorrow, Turkish Foreign Minister said
Mevlut Cavusoglu returned to his aggressive rhetoric, who declared that “there are islets and rocky islets that we rightly say are ours”, directly raising the issue of the sovereignty of Greek islands.
As SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports from Istanbul, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that the sovereignty of these islets has not been clearly defined by the treaties of Lausanne in 23 and Paris in 1947.
Cavusoglu: “When they claim an airspace of 10 miles above the territorial waters of 6 miles and our aircraft enter between the 4 miles, which according to international law do not belong to them, then they start talking about violations.
Also, there are islets and rocky islets whose ownership has not been determined. I refer to the treaties of Lausanne in ’23 and Paris in ’47, whose sovereignty is not clearly defined by the treaties. We rightly say that they belong to us. Greece also says they are “hers” and then tension breaks out.”
Tomorrow again we can have tension with Greece
At the same time, Mevlut Cavusoglu emphasized that there is an agreement for discussions after the elections in both countries, but as he pointed out… who knows, there may be some tension tomorrow.
“They also have an election a week after us and we have come to an agreement to sit down again in a more frank environment to discuss how we are going to solve these problems. But tomorrow there may be some tension.
As today they seem to have such a duty, their president and their defense minister made an announcement about the alleged genocide of the Armenians. Not long ago, their defense minister visited Turkey.”
