Outside of Qatargate, Eva Kaili has yet another headache to deal with.

According to Politico, there is one new criminal investigation against Eva Kaili concerning suspicious payments concerning four former assistants he had in the European Parliament, from 2014 to 2020.

Specifically, according to a letter from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) to the President of the Parliament Roberta Metsola, Kaili is under investigation for three suspicious activities: if she misled the Parliament about the location and work activities of her assistants, if she took a share of the their reimbursements for alleged business trips and whether she also took kickbacks from her associates’ salaries.

The same publication refers, among other things, to a corresponding investigation carried out for the Greek MEP, Maria Spyrakis, without, however, proving what was investigated from the documents that are in the hands of the European authorities.

According to the research that had already been published, the Greek MEP Eva Kaili seems to owe the European Parliament “around 100,000 euros”.

With all Qatargate suspects no longer in custody and no new arrests since February, attention is now turning to this new case, the report said.

Kaili is under house arrest by M. Paraskevi.

In fact, the MEPs who belong to the Parliament’s legal affairs committee will discuss Kaili’s case and the possible lifting of her immunity, behind closed doors for the first time this Tuesday (25/4).

“The current investigation concerns strong suspicions of repeated fraud and/or other serious irregularities,” European Union Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi said of the letter seen by Politico, which was sent to Parliament in December and called for the immunity of the Kailis and Spirakis.
