Clarifications on the “Dimitra” project and the euro, as well as estimates on the post-election scenarios, were given by Yanis Varoufakis from the pre-election rally of MeRA25 – Alliance for the Break, in Acharnes on Tuesday night.

Starting from the “Demitra” plan – according to a related announcement by MeRA25-Alliance for Breakup – the head of the scheme firstly wondered, “why so much fuss about MeRA25 these days?”. To answer then, “because only we speak publicly for the sale of public property, for all that is going on. Now with “Dimitra” they are talking to their media, as if they caught us in the act, when it was even in our pre-election program in 2019! Then we begged for it to be heard, now they bring it out as an apocalypse!”.

Giving, right after, the outline of what the “Demitra” Plan is after all, he noted that “it is an electronic platform to make transactions instead of paying the banks. It is a trading platform, not a currency! In other words, we cut out the middleman, the banks that we have partnered with in each of our payments, and we do the transactions between us directly through this platform, with zero transaction costs. And then Mr. Mitsotakis came out and was talking about how many “Dimitris” the souvlaki will make, which is like asking how many banks the souvlaki costs!

Intervening on the other hand in the debate about the currency, he clarified his position on the euro: “We are not planning to leave the euro, but we are ready to legislate all that is needed to put society and the country on its feet. If then Brussels comes and threatens to close our banks like in ’15 because we violate the memorandums, the world’s money will be safe and free in “Demitra”. And, if necessary never leave the euro, the system will be ready for the transition to a national currency without dependence on banks. Any currency is a servant of the people, not their master!”, he said, closing the relevant report.

Elaborating further on the strategy behind the government and media attack on MeRA25, as he said, G. Varoufakis stated: “The demonization of MeRA25 by the media these days has SYRIZA as its recipient. They want a public statement from Alexis Tsipras that he will never cooperate with MeRA25 “who wants to take us out of the euro”. We answer them: MeRA25 is never going to support a SYRIZA that has no intention of changing anything in policy matters and has the audacity to abandon us “to honor the popular mandate” by supporting a government that is committed to not doing anything of what we write in our program!”.

At the same time, G. Varoufakis referred to the position of MeRA25 – Alliance for Breakup, on the war in Ukraine, recalling that, “from the first day of the war, we have been the only political force that supports peace and the need to immediately start a peace process . At the time when the warmongering imperialists superpowers US-NATO and Russia they invest in the perpetuation of war for the benefit of the war industry, the oligarchy and their regimes, at the expense of the people.

However, as the gathering had the originality of asking questions from citizens about the issues that concern them, to a related question about his assessment of the outcome of the upcoming elections, he said: “For the first Sunday, we have some certainty that it will” burns” because no one, neither SYRIZA nor ND, appreciates simple proportionality. If SYRIZA really wanted the simple analogwould accept the pre-election programmatic dialogue to which we called them. In the second elections, we will have some kind of government of cooperation, whether of parties or even defectors, without excluding “ecumenism” of the memorandum arc with some straw man prime minister and with third ballots in maybe a year”. Finally, the head of MeRA25 – Alliance for Breakup closed his speech by presenting the candidates of the East Attica region.

The gathering of MERA25 – Alliance for the Break at the Acharnon City Hall was opened by the candidate for Eastern Attica MP Yiannis Anastasopoulos, while the MP of the same district, Maria Apatzidis, addressed a greeting.
