“Nobody goes on vacation somewhere they don’t feel safe. Greece breaks one record after another every year. This proves that everyone worldwide knows that Greece is a completely safe destination” said Takis Theodorikakos, Minister of Citizen Protection, talking to George Eugenides, presenter of Star Channel, at the 8th Delphi Economic Forum, which takes place in Delphi 26 – April 29 and is under the auspices of S.A. of the President of the Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

As the minister announced, this year the presence of the police is being strengthened throughout the country with 830 additional police officers in tourist destinations, while more than 1,100 police officers are directed to ports and airports.

Mr. Theodorikakos clarified that the law of the Greek state applies in Mykonos, while the island is reinforced with forces of the OPKE, but also with forces that carry out traffic controls. As he clarified: “There are no signs of delinquency anywhere in Greece and we are determined for that.”

In addition, according to official data announced by the Minister, “low delinquency and crime in 2022 is 25% lower than the average of the period 2015-2019”, while he added that “our mission is to strengthen the presence of the police, liberating the police forces from overtime.”

What follows, he said, is to give every prison the ability to connect to courtrooms online, with the goal of freeing thousands of police officers from the dangerous duty of shuttles.

He also said that in 2022 we had the fewest homicides of all previous years (79), while the vast majority of them were solved. As he stated: “The police are not going to stop looking for criminals. The investigation does not stop if the culprits are not brought to justice.” Responding to a related question, he described as “slanderous” the statement of the official opposition leader from Berlin, who said that the Greek police is run by the mafia, pointing out that “Mr. Tsipras must reform”. Regarding the phenomena of corruption in the security forces, he emphasized that “we are very strict with sworn police officers”, while 34 have already been appointed.

Speaking about the upcoming national elections, Mr. Theodorikakos mentioned that Mr. Tsipras recognizes that he will be a second party, while he described the official opposition party as “Babel”. He estimated that Mr. Tsipras can cooperate with anyone in order to form a government, and added that with his recent statements about a government of tolerance, he “resurrected” Mr. Varoufakis.

“Whoever wants stability in the country has one solution: Vote for ND and Kyriakos Mitsotakis”, Mr. Theodorikakos pointed out and assessed that the goal of ND self-reliance is absolutely possible in the July 1 elections, however, as he said, citizens must give a clear mandate from the very first elections.
