“Today in Serres, Mr. Tsipras proved that we belong to two different worlds, we express diametrically opposite political perceptions and values. On the one hand, responsibility and seriousness, and on the other, political adventurism and populism. On the one hand, the path of stability and progress within Europe, and on the other, regression and dangerous experiments with the future of the country, said former infrastructure minister Kostas Karamanlis regarding the statements of SYRIZA president Tsipras from Serres.

He added: “We don’t forget that Mr. Tsipras and his party played a key role in the greatest conquest of the Greeks in the post-colonial period, the integration of Greece into the European family, which was planned and carried out by the late Konos Karamanlis.

We do not forget that Mr. Tsipras, who has now chosen Macedonia to become a citizen, is the one who too easily signed the Prespa agreement.

Let’s not forget that shortly before he lost the 2019 elections he decided to change the electoral law to plunge the country back into instability.

So the choice is clear: we move forward to progress and stability, or we turn back to adventure.

And something more personal: Mr. Tsipras’s decision to launch an attack against me is a typical example of political opportunism.

Taking political responsibility is a concept unknown to Mr. Tsipras. Respect for the citizens of Serres is also unknown to him.

He comes now, after years of indifference in the city of Serres, to indicate to us in a divisive way that we must tear down the castle.

I would like to inform Mr. Tsipras that Serres is indeed a castle of the Republic.

Castle of the country’s European journey, as defined by the founder of New Democracy, Konstantinos Karamanlis, which started from this very place.

Castle of free choice.

This free choice will be expressed on May 21 by the citizens of Serres.

And they will give Mr. Tsipras a resounding answer.”
