“The February 6 earthquake showed once again how intertwined our destinies are as Greece and Turkey,” said Erdogan’s political rival for the Turkish presidency
“We wish to revive the accession talks, but also to improve the legal and regulatory standards as well as to introduce stability, mutual trust and understanding in our relations” in terms of relations with the EU and especially Greece, said the head of Republican People’s Party of Turkey and presidential candidate of the opposition alliance, Kemal Kilicdaroglu in an interview with “Naftemporiki” 10 days before the Turkish elections.
As he pointed out, “the February 6th earthquake showed once again how intertwined our destinies are as Greece and Turkey».
Referring to foreign policy, he committed himself to the return of the doctrine “peace in the country, peace in the world”. As he explained, this postulate means that the peace, security and prosperity of our country depends on developments in the neighborhood as well as in the world, more broadly.
He also proposed the need for cooperation with the countries of the Mediterranean Union, speaking of a new era of cooperation. “We will work together for water, for peace. We have to work together. I know that my Greek brothers and sisters have felt the effects of climate change. Hotter summers, more and more fires, everything changes. We feel it here on the other side of the Aegean. These problems will get worse as time goes on if we don’t act now,” said Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
As for the upcoming Turkish elections on May 14, his main opponent Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, appeared confident of his victory. “We will defeat an authoritarian regime by democratic means” and that spring will come in every aspect of life and in the life of every citizen, he underlined.
Outlining his priorities, he proposed five main points: Democracy, education, foreign policy, economy and social peace. In particular, he listed the restoration of the rule of law, which does not discriminate based on ideology, religion, language, race, gender or identity, putting an end to the economic crisis, eliminating corruption, approaching principles in foreign policy.
Asked, among other things, about immigration, Kemal Kilicdaroglu replied that if he comes to power, Turkey will stop all illegal entry into the country, noting that the security of our borders will be a priority.
