“He went so far as to compare himself to onions and sing,” Turkish media reports
With less than ten days to go before Turkey’s elections scheduled for May 14, the party machines are in full swing.
As reported by SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis KostidisRecep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech asserted that “my people will not sacrifice their leader for a few potatoes and onions.”
In detail, the Turkish president emphasized: “These lands of Kerasunda had defeated the Pontian gangs. This is how I believe that even today Kerasunda will make the homeland hell for the plasterers of Mount Qandil (Kurds) and the Gülenists. I know that you will not sacrifice your leader for a few onions and potatoes.”
He sang the song written for him
At the same time, while Erdogan had stated that due to the earthquake he would not have songs at the pre-election rallies, he himself goes up to the platform and sings the song written for him.
His lyrics state in detail: “Everything is for Turkey. Our dreams and our prayers. Our president is the apple of our eye. Our songs always talk about him. Who can stand against the people, this love is immortal. You think it’s easy to tear us down. Let’s all say it together and let the whole world hear us.
To those who hear and who do not. To those who ask and to those who don’t. We love him very much, we love him, we love him.
To those who hear and who do not. To those who ask and to those who don’t. We love him very much, we love him, we love him.”
Turkish media: Erdogan begs to vote for him
Erdogan’s statements and actions have been criticized by some of the Turkish media, with FOX TV presenter Fatih Portakal saying, among other things, that he is begging to vote for him and that he “went to the point of comparing himself to onions and singing »:
“Erdogan said that ‘you will not sacrifice me for a few potatoes and onions.’ Do you know what that means? What is the next sentence? ‘I’m begging you, vote for me’. Yes, that is because they are huddled, in a difficult position. Because they didn’t succeed and now, in the last days they started saying ‘you are a terrorist, you are a traitor’. To see how much trouble the whole president is in, he gets on the podium and sings. Are we such a country that we have such a mood and spirits at this time?’
