The head of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas, in his speech today, at the Amphitheater in Technopolis, at the event organized by KO Attica on the topic “People’s roof, earthquake protection, school infrastructures vs Profits for funds – banks, hostile state of crows” pointed out that “on the eve of elections, all the accomplices for the auction crimes and household over-indebtedness, they now represent the late patrons of the first home.”

“The KKE warned the people in time, got in front of the struggle and illuminated the truth with facts and figures. The communists through their unions are at the forefront of every battle so that the electricity is not cut off in public houses, so that public families are not evicted with the auctions,” he emphasized.

Citing figures from the new Eurostat report on housing in Europe, he said that “housing costs are unbearable for a large part of ordinary families”.

He said that the answer to why ordinary households are burdened with so much debt and why they are unable to pay rent and bills, lies “in the slaughter of the ordinary income that all governments have implemented, and in the policy of memorandums and post-memorandum commitments that they promote and implement together , hand in hand ND, SYRIZA and PASOK”.

Referring to the “OECD recommendations for the next government” and the corresponding “EU demands to disburse installments of Community Funds”, he noted that “the anti-popular policy will continue and intensify, whichever government is formed”.

He spoke of an upcoming new round of rent increases, also citing the heavy consequences of the drastic change in land prices from the “encroachment of tourism into city centers”.

He also pointed out that the changes in holiday construction are being made “to concentrate the land in the hands of the tourism groups”.

He said that ND, SYRIZA and PASOK “want to hide that the auctions will continue and increase after the elections, whatever government is formed”.

D. Koutsoubas referred extensively to the step-by-step formulation and enforcement by the PASOK, SYRIZA, and ND governments of the “reactionary framework that puts a noose around the people’s neck”, as well as what the programs of these parties envisage with heavy consequences for the public housing and over-indebted public households, and explained both the reasons why “the storm of auctions and the bleeding of borrowers, with the threat of auctions, is not a random choice”.

“It is imposed by the commitments to the EU, which none of the parties in the system dispute, it is promoted by the state, it is demanded by the banking groups and “it is promoted by the ‘crows’, the funds and the servicers, which they have in their hands most of the ‘red’ loans. That is why ND, PASOK and SYRIZA rejected again the KKE’s proposal to write off a large part of the debt of over-indebted public households and ban the auctions of first homes”, he stressed.

“The people’s homes can only be saved by popular uprising and that is why a strong KKE is needed to organize the popular counter-attack” emphasized D. Koutsoumbas.

“This state and its governments are very capable of ensuring the profits of the groups and for the same reason they sacrifice our own needs. The current state is hostile towards us because it is the state of the dictatorship of capital” he said, referring, then, to the terrifying lack of anti-seismic shielding in the country, to the unjustified delays in the restoration of earthquake barriers and to the simultaneous provision of huge amounts of community funds for the energy upgrade of buildings, for whose static adequacy is not guaranteed, with “the main criterion for the prioritization and selection of project financing is the guarantee of the groups’ maximum profit”.

Emphasizing that “there is a way out, socialism”, D. Koutsoubas emphasized that “we firmly believe that there can certainly be a higher organization of society again, where land, water, housing, fuel, energy, labor power itself, will not be commodities” and referred to the experience of socialist construction in the 20th century, where “in the Soviet Union and in the countries where socialism was built, social rights to work, to housing, to heating were enshrined in practice , in health, in high-level education”.

“We can today, in the 21st century, imagine the radical improvement that socialism can bring to our lives” he said, emphasizing among other things that “with central scientific planning, on the ground of social ownership of land, water and the means of production , the modern safe houses, the renovations and expansions in the cities and overall the uses of the land will be planned, based on the totality of the people’s needs”.

“All this can be done immediately, as soon as the people realize their power and decide to walk the path of overthrow, hand in hand with other peoples” he underlined, pointing out that “the supremacy of the new socialist society, in order to provide a radical solution on the issue of housing and other popular problems, illuminates the modern subversive program of power of the KKE”.

He called on the people “to turn their backs on the extortionate and deceptive dilemmas of ND and SYRIZA” and to fight with the KKE for the only way out that really secures the people’s right to modern and safe housing” and emphasizing “in the elections of the 21st May, we are fighting to make the KKE even stronger, so that the people themselves can be strong” he concluded in his speech:

“The forces of the KKE will be at the forefront of organizing the people’s struggle, facing the difficulties ahead, facing the new anti-people measures that the next government will implement, whatever color or symbol it uses.

We will be in front, as the only real popular opposition, inside and outside the Parliament, for covering the housing needs of the people under the responsibility of the state.

We are ahead of the race:

– To abolish the auctions of the people’s houses and property.

– To abolish indirect taxes on fuel and basic necessities.

– For the re-establishment of the OEK, the utilization of its reserves and real estate, the reinforcement of an exclusively state construction program, for modern and cheap houses for working families.

– For the utilization of EFKA’s real estate for the people’s needs and not for the projects of the special purpose company.

– For interest-free housing loans for eligible employees and the unemployed.

– For the utilization of hotels and apartments for free housing of students under the responsibility of the state.

– For integrated state planning of anti-earthquake shielding and anti-flood protection.

– For anti-seismic control of public housing under the responsibility of the state, against the mandatory private insurance of buildings.

– To abolish Concession Agreements and PPPs that burden us with expensive tolls and new burdens for a handful of groups to hoard.

– For cheap electricity and water for the people, against the commitments of the EU Green Transition.

– To protect the people’s income, for collective agreements with substantial increases, 35 hours – 5 days – 7 hours, for the cancellation of interest and part of the debts.
