Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is currently giving an interview to SKAI 100.3 and journalist Ari Portosalte.

The first question concerned the tragedy in Kallithea, where a 12-year-old girl was run over by a car and lost her life.

-I’m glad we’re starting with road safety issues – we have a very specific target to reduce road deaths by 50% by 2030, with a range of interventions, not just roads, but also culture change.

To insist on the helmet – front and rear seat belt, to be strict with KOK. There is often a confusion of responsibilities, steps have been taken, but our cities are not at the level they should be.

– Metro line 4 will be ready before the end of the decade.

-Will you be bolder if you win in partnership with the private sector?

– We have PPPs, partnerships with the private sector. To give an example, the student residences, approximately 10,000 residences, in three to four years for five universities, which will be an important breath for our students, as will the increase in the rent allowance, especially if two children live together. We have never been afraid of a private-public partnership. Our main difference with SYRIZA and PASOK is how we perceive the role of the state. You see the local currencies that came into the news. Wealth is created by the private economy, entrepreneurship.

-Insurance contributions, workers do not find workers. Is further reduction a target?

-Insurance contributions will be reduced by at least one unit. The issue of aligning the needs of the labor market with education is a target for the next term.

-The final result will be that the minimum wage be determined through a negotiation framework. Collective bargaining exists and works, for example in tourism, and it is above the minimum wage.

– ELSTAT released data on poverty and inequalities. The figures fully justify our policy, The percentage of Greeks who are in poverty decreased, as did all the indicators that show inequality, improved. In response to the OECD report, which is based on incorrect data, we sent a response. Our policy was and is aimed at reducing inequalities. My goal is the further reduction of inequalities to reach Central European limits.

-Have you fallen behind in dealing with tax evasion?

– We are criticized for having a bonus policy. The pandemic was a phenomenon that threatened to blow up the structure of the economy and society. We supported businesses and employees based on declared income. Our policy was completely justified. Everywhere I go I see the market doing well. In Parga I saw a lot of tourism already, shops that stayed open thanks to the support. We also had a support framework for the weakest, such as the go-to market. We were told that we spend more than we have. They were denied the results. Marginal primary surplus in ’22 and we will achieve our goals. A lot has been done to tackle tax evasion. Many transactions, as well as citizens’ transactions, are done digitally – and this was a profit from the pandemic. Important steps have been taken, we must further support electronic transactions.
