SETE presented the National Action Plan for Greek tourism to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a teleconference.
The National Action Plan is the final composition of the study “Greek Tourism 2030 | Action Plans ”prepared by INSETE and is a comprehensive approach to policy planning and policy, management and governance of the Greek tourism product and destinations.
“I want to thank all those who worked so that we can have this structured and holistic plan at our disposal. I believe that Greece will benefit from the crisis of the pandemic in the tourism sector. The country is currently in very good shape in terms of its international image. All MEGA exams, especially this shift to wellness, experience, people, coexistence with the natural cultural environment, I believe highlight the important comparative advantages of the country. “Now is the time to implement a long-term strategic plan, which will be able to highlight all these very important comparative advantages”, noted, among other things, the Prime Minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined that “we must rethink after the pandemic, incorporating its lessons. What does the national branding of the country mean in the post-pandemic period. I estimate that next year will be a year of transition with very intense tourist traffic rates if everything goes well with COVID-19. Here we are called to make a long-term plan. So I attach great importance to how we turn this important text into an axis of action. “
During the teleconference, the resilience of Greek tourism in 2021 was confirmed, as against the forecasts and the unprecedented difficulties, the tourism sector contributed to the Greek economy, approximately 55% of the payments of 2019. It was expressed that it will achieve even better results this year.
The Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, among others, noted: “The study” Greek Tourism 2030 | Action Plans ”differs from previous action plans in two main points. First, while usually similar studies analyzed WHICH products of Greek tourism should be developed, the present study identifies with detailed plans HOW these products can be developed. Second, the study utilizes the tourist destination as a unit of analysis, policy, management and marketing and the structure of the action plan can potentially function as a model of methodical planning for each destination of the country that aims to develop tourism. The role of this study can practically serve as an aid and as a policy direction to the DMOs (Destination Management Organizations) that will be created after the recent passage of the bill.
The President of SETE, Giannis Retsos, stated: “SETE fully fulfills its role and responsibility as a social partner, delivering today the strategic plan, the roadmap, for tourism to enter the new era. This is a study that meets the needs of the times, which takes into account the particular characteristics of the tourism sector, which is dynamic and adapts to developments. Our goal is for the “National Action Plan” to be the beginning of a period of public consultation, at central and regional level, as the successful implementation of the strategy needs / requires substantial participants and companions, synthetically and in combination with the other dynamic sectors of the Greek economy. ».
