The Prime Minister went to Rhodes in order to attend the unveiling ceremony of a bust in memory of Dimitris Kremastinos.
The construction of a separate radiation therapy building of 1,300 square meters at the Rhodes hospital was announced by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the General Hospital of the island, where he was in order to attend to unveiling ceremony of a bust in memory of Dimitris Kremastinos.
The prime minister noted that “I know it was a long-standing request of the society of Rhodes”, while he then expressed his thanks and gratitude to all the workers in the Health System “who kept the system standing during the pandemic” on the occasion of today’s World Nurses Day and Nurses.
During his brief intervention, Mr. Mitsotakis referred to his scientific and political career former minister of PASOK:
“Through his political journey he wanted to upgrade the National Health System. That was his dream, that’s what he fought for. And of course this hospital, which bears the name of perhaps his most famous patient, Andreas Papandreou, was largely his own vision. And he then equated his own course with his constant upgrading.” Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned specifically about Dimitris Kremastinos, in her presence Jenis Kremastinouwhich thanked the Prime Minister for recognizing the work of the distinguished scientist and politician.
The prime minister, as we mentioned above, emphasized that “today, which is also International Nurses’ Day, I want to say from the bottom of my heart a very big thank you to all the workers in the National Health System who kept the system, the society, in the difficult battle which we fought against the coronavirus. A battle which – as we know – unfortunately also had victims, one of whom was Dimitris Kremastinos. But it gave us the opportunity to highlight the strong side of a public National Health System, but also to identify its weaknesses. And in this way to propose the new National Social Security System as the dominant political priority of our Government for the second four-year period”.
Radiation therapy building in the hospital
“I am glad that I am also given the opportunity as Prime Minister to participate even a little in the effort to provide better health services for the people of Rhodes, for the people of the Dodecanese, as today we are happy to be able to make the final announcement about the creation of a separate building radiation therapy of 1,300 square meters”, said the Prime Minister adding “I know that it was a long-standing request of the society of Rhodes. I know how difficult it is to move far from the islands to be able to have health services, especially such critical services as radiation therapy. I want to emphasize that the funding for the construction of the building comes from the Region. The equipment will come from the funds of the Ministry of Health and we will put it in place very quickly. The District Governor, besides, you know how efficient he is in keeping to his timetables. And I wish and hope that we will be given the opportunity to be here again to inaugurate this great project for Rhodes, for the National Health System”.
