“I was not at all surprised by the result. I considered and still consider that the polling possibilities of a country like Turkey are limited and the opposition, which is considered by most Westerners to be on the threshold of power, did not have the real possibilities given by the measurements and Western wishes” he said today to SKAI and the journalist, Pavlos Tsimas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, commenting on the result of yesterday’s elections in Turkey.

He emphasized that Greece is obliged to cooperate with whomever the Turkish people decide next Sunday should be their president. He added that Erdogan has already managed to have a parliamentary majority.

He expressed the hope that the climate created by his visit to the earthquake affected areas of Turkey would continue and that a window of opportunity would be given to try to find a solution to our difference.

He pointed out that Erdogan’s recent rhetoric tends to create this hope.
