Kostas Christidis is behind many Hollywood soundtracks as well as Maestro’s music – “Tears, Ashes and Remembrances”, will be presented in a world premiere on May 19 at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall
The events that occurred during the Genocide of Pontic Hellenism are “narrated” through notes and sounds by the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki (K.O.Th.). Wanting to commemorate the day of remembrance of the Pontic Hellenic Genocide, he commissioned from the internationally recognized Greek composer Costas Christidis to write a piece of music.
This is the project “Tears, Ashes and Remembrances” (“Tears, ashes and memories”), which he will present to world premiere on May 19 at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, in a concert entitled “Memory and Pioneering”.
“Coming from the world of cinema, I combined the music with the images that came to my mind, after texts and references that I studied. So I decided to narrate situations and feelings, to do a quick review of the events and their impact in free form”, says Kostas Christidis to the Athenian/Macedonian News Agency, stressing that in his composition there is no limitation or rule that governs several forms classical music composition.
The project consists of four sectionswhich are clearly described with the …power of music.
“It begins with the persecution, massacres and violence against the Pontians, continues with the sad images of the gunpowder-smoked, abandoned ruins and leads to an elegy, which mourns the victims and the lost souls”, explains the composer and adds: “The The work concludes with a reference to today’s Pontic Hellenism which was reborn from its ashes, which continues its course with an inexhaustible dynamic worldwide, but at the same time never forgets its past and its roots”.
The concert will be given next Friday, May 19 at 21:00 in the Emilios Riadis Hall (M2) of the Thessaloniki Music Hall.
