“We have now entered the final stretch for the crucial polls of May 21, a meeting of pivotal importance for Greece”, stressed the Minister of State and government representative Akis Skertsos, starting the briefing for the political editors.

“In next Sunday’s elections it will be judged whether we will take even bolder and more decisive steps forward to bring twice the growth rates of the rest of Europe and the next four years as has already happened, better wages for all with increases to 25%, decent health with 80 modern emergency departments in 80 hospitals of the country and 156 modern centers also throughout Greece, along with free preventive examinations for all citizens.

Affordable housing for 137,000 young men and women, care for the most vulnerable, efficient state, 100% digital, cheap and clean electricity 80% from sun and wind. And finally, a solution to the Immigration problem with the assistance of Europe and with impregnable borders, in a country with optimism, pride, more opportunities and perspective for its young people. In a few words, this is the ND program for 2027 and based on this and what has been done so far, we ask everyone to compare themselves”, he emphasized.

He said that “the landmine of simple analogy left behind by the previous SYRIZA government can lead to patterns of political instability, social and economic regression that will undermine this path forward.”

He emphasized that only a strong mandate from the citizens for a self-reliant ND government, without wavering but also with a willingness to cooperate more widely, can guarantee the reforms that society is asking for quickly and safely.

He countered that the flight forward could not be secured by a Babel government like the one the opposition is discussing, although he said he would pursue it if the numbers allowed even though they now appear to dislike each other. “That’s why the loose protest vote is very dangerous in the simple proportional ballot box,” he stressed.

At this point he asked himself if what we want is a government of losers, a recipe for paralysis with the only adhesive targeting power and the removal of Kyriakos Mitsotakis? An unstable government that at the first difficulty will be hostage to extortion and collapse.

He reiterated that the country needs a government responsible for the modernization of institutions, the state, society and also responsible patriotism for the defense of our national issues with an open mind but also without giving up even a cent of our national rights and our permanent claims . He underlined that it is important which government and which prime minister will handle challenges like the ones we faced in the past four years, who will handle an unpredictable neighbor like Turkey, where Mr. Erdogan’s clear lead can be seen again.

He reiterated at this point that the ND’s position on possible cooperation with Mr. Androulakis’s PASOK is clear, as this cooperation has been ruled out by Mr. Androulakis himself with his positions. He has cut every bridge of discussion and cooperation with the prime minister. In fact, he emphasized that this is where he meets with Mr. Tsipras.

He said, however, “we are well aware that we came together with a significant part of PASOK voters during the years of populism and the European isolation of the country. That together we kept Greece and remained Europe, as well as that together in 2019 we joined a great current that turned the page in the country. The intervening years have shown that common goals can be put into practice by a self-reliant government with open horizons that seeks the progress of the country. As they showed, mistakes we made and the government and the prime minister were the first to recognize.”

He even addressed this point to those citizens who may feel close to PASOK, but are at the same time interested in a strong Greece, with a dynamic economy, border security and political stability.

He then referred to three recent publications in the international press that point to the dynamic growth of the economy under the Mitsotakis administration and the reduction of public debt, the increase in exports, manufacturing and innovation, as well as the fact that our country is now always subject to political stability and the continuation of the same economic policy half a step before the recovery of the investment grade.
