The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a provocative announcement on Friday. He rejects the Pontian Genocide, as he argues that “we consider it a futile attempt to target this special day, which represents the beginning of our War of Independence, through the unfounded “Pontian” claims and some radical groups against our history, their activities which feed the Turkish hostility and the statements of some Greek politicians who they distort the historical data”.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs argues, addressing “those who target Turkey with unrealistic claims and statements”, that “Greece’s responsibility and the fact that it was sentenced to compensation for the atrocities committed by the invading Greek army, in violation of the laws of war, during the bloody invasion of Anatolia were recorded in the Treaty of Lausanne”.

He also speaks of “politicians who continue to manipulate, deceive, distort and make up lies and reverse reality” and calls on them to “face their own dark history and get rid of the hysteria that stems from Turkish hostility”.

“We recommend to all circles in Greece to adopt a vision that will allow an environment of peace and cooperation, instead of continuing their provocative rhetoric and actions today,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry concludes in its statement.
