The polls for expatriate Greeks in the United Kingdom closed in all polling stations, while the participation rate reached 76.3%.

In London, 2,904 people voted out of 3,858 registered

In the other cities (Glasgow Edinburgh, Leeds and Birmingham) 817 out of 978 registered people voted.

The Greeks in the UK are estimated at around 170 thousand.

Everything went harmoniously according to the Greek ambassador in London, Mr. Ioannis Tsaousis, and there was no closing delay in any polling station.

It is estimated that after the end of the process of registration of emigrants, more than 10 thousand additional foreign residents have been registered in the electoral rolls for the electoral process. Based on the data so far, it is proportionally calculated that the UK’s percentage will grow so much in a possible repeat election that many more polling stations will be necessary.

The majority of the voters were young people up to 45-50 years old, while most of them expressed the desire to abolish the condition of filing a tax return for two years, so that more Greeks could vote from their country of residence.

In the voting of Greeks abroad, the State ballots were used. There were 13 in total and each voter, 12 the parties that had State ballots, plus one white. After the ballot box was closed, the envelopes were counted, without being opened.

Subsequently, the bags with the ballots travel today, Sunday, May 21, to “Eleftherios Venizelos” and accompanied by the police to the Athens Court of Appeal. There they will be opened and the sorting will take place when the polls close in Greek territory.
