THE President of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas went to presidential palace where he delivered them results of the May 21 election to PtD Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, after her meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas and his announcement of the strength of the parties in the Parliament based on the results of the May 21 elections, will receive at 12:30 at the Presidential Palace the President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakisin order to assign him an exploratory mandate to form a governmentin accordance with the provisions of article 37 par. 2 of the Constitution.

Mr. Tasoulas emphasized to the PtD that “according to the constitution, I am tasked with announcing to you the strength of the parties in the Parliament. This is what emerges from the briefing given to me a short while ago in my office by the interim minister of the interior, Mr. Spanou.

The update was complete. The elections were held by common consent in a climate where the state guaranteed the free and unadulterated conduct of the elections – and by common consent this is how the elections were held – at the end of the four-year period and the results with an overwhelming integration (99.7%) are here and I will formally hand them over to you to set in motion the subsequent developments within your responsibilities.

The power of the parties is unchangeable, there is no way it will change and we also have the names of the deputies who are elected.”

For her part, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou emphasized to Mr. Tasoula:

“As you also said, it is very gratifying that the pre-election period also went smoothly and in a democratic context. There are always tensions, but I don’t think any limits were crossed.

The elections which are the most critical – both the preparation and the day – went with absolute smoothness and thanks to the advancement of technology we had the possibility to get results quite early on.

Therefore from now on the Constitution has very clearly prescribed the course of things. Of course, this procedure will be followed and everything will go as we wish”
