Grateful to the citizens for the trust they showed in New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said the secretary of the ND Parliament, Pavlos Marinakiswho was hosted in the morning on the radio station SKAI FM 100.3 and talked about the results of yesterday’s elections.
At the same time, he thanked the party officials throughout the territory, his collaborators and the entire Piraeus team, stating that it is a great honor to be part of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ team, and indeed as the youngest secretary in the history of the party.
“The result, I won’t hide from you, that in its extent, in its scope and in terms of the difference, it was completely unexpected. We are grounded. I will tell you that, as I saw it last night, I too was trying to understand all the reasons for this extent, this clean victory, which obviously makes Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy very big winners and completely disapproves of toxicity, the logics of simple analogy, the opportunistic logics. I can tell you that during this pre-election period, which I also felt very strongly, not two months, but almost 18 months that I have been secretary of the party. Because we did not remember the citizens before the election, I will tell you that I find four reasons for this result”, said Mr. Marinakis.
And he explained: “The first is the consequence of words and works. For the first time, something that a prime minister candidate said before the election to such a large extent, and despite the criticism, was put into practice after the election. Obviously there are things that need to be done more quickly and this is also part of the mandate given by the citizens, but most things were done to a very large extent and sometimes more was done.
The second reason is crises. Our country has managed these years, like the whole world, the largest imported unprecedented crises.
We fought battles. Some we won, some we lost, some we didn’t win as much as we should have, but we gave it all. Together with the citizens. The opposition in these crises found an opportunity to “pelt” not only the government, not only the prime minister, to “pelt” the country. It was from outside. He talked about “Mitsotakis precision”, “Mitsotakis pandemic”, he was deaf when we talked about Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. He was saying that we don’t know if there will be vaccines, that we will run out of vaccines. He marched for Koufodina.
Essentially, they clearly turned a blind eye to Kasidiaris. The people realized this and it was also a punishment in the logic of “being opposite and baptizing the crises with the name of my political opponent”.
The third reason was that SYRIZA rose to prominence by exploiting toxicity, irregularity. The phrase of Efi Ahtsioglou, during these four years, says it all, that normality is not an opportunity for the Left. However, when the moment comes when normality gradually returns and you have to speak programmatically and you don’t say anything substantial, we made a clear proposal that is judged and will be evaluated for whether it will be implemented by the citizens, then you will be “punished” for the fact that you can’t just be a protest party while the times begin and gradually get better.
And the fourth reason, which we experienced and which is perhaps the greatest success of the next pre-election period that starts today, is that while we were saying some facts, presenting a program, some facts, making a report, they were questioning the Supreme Court, the judicial decisions, opinion polls, economic data, we were trying to talk and document something concrete and SYRIZA was telling us that the donkey is “flying”.
Afterwards, the secretary of the ND PE noted: “Let’s remind the listeners what happened – for example – with the supposedly dead little girl in Evros. This shows many things. The speed they had in “condemning” Greece, slandering Greece, without waiting. However, I think that the result is so clear, the order that Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy is receiving to move even faster is so clear, that this order speaks for itself. And let them do the analysis, let them talk about their own issues.
I really say it and I mean it, I want us to talk, we will have about 25 days ahead of us if we succeed in the procedures based on all the constitutional imperatives and go to have a stable government for the country even faster with Kyriakos Mitsotakis as prime minister. I think it’s a first-class opportunity this election season, without having a man next to us telling us that “the donkey is flying”, to talk programmatically. What should we do for Greece in the coming years”.
At the same time, Mr. Marinakis commented on the developments in PASOK: “Mr. Androulakis is talking about a great victory, without saying what the great victory is. But everyone is judged, evaluated. I’m not saying, the percentages of PASOK-KINAL went up, but when you have a prime minister who gets a bigger percentage after the most difficult years and what you say is that your party is the big winners, obviously to rally your party, it shows that probably you have not understood what has happened. I am referring to Mr. Androulakis.”
“We will have a month to talk about the big ones. Yes, for public health, how much more do we have to do, for private universities, let’s all take a clear position. Citizens want even more changes. Greater speed. Programmatic reason. People don’t wait. Whatever his political identity was, whatever he has supported in previous years, he wants the changes to continue,” he stressed.
According to the secretary of the ND PE, “the times are moving forward, the world is moving forward despite the difficulties. The discussion was, is and will be the solution of the problems. Obviously there are ideological nuances in every citizen’s vote, almost every vote. Obviously there are citizens who are placed in a space much closer to us, maybe even to our right. However, Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ answers to these stakes were clear. The country was defensively fortified. They put two pictures next to each other. The image of the pariah of Europe, which was our country during the days of Alexis Tsipras, and the image of the prime minister in Congress. Think about how many crucial parliamentary votes SYRIZA either abstained from or opposed for the country.
As for the equipment of the country, as in the big agreements with our neighbors. The big meetings that took place, the relations that the country built in recent years with Israel, with Egypt. In all that happened, he was absent. And I tell you again, the fact that this percentage was given, this order was given, is an order to continue with even greater speed, which Kyriakos Mitsotakis, however, showed in matters that we were not used to in the country.
That is, our political opponents may think that 112 was a foregone conclusion. The vaccination system was a foregone conclusion. But we lived in a country where always in recent years what everyone was saying, unfortunately? That “there is no state”. The man, therefore, who proved together with his collaborators, with his government, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, that after all there is a state, it exists in Evros, it exists in vaccines, it can exist even where it appeared that it did not exist”.
“I told you in our last meeting, they can believe us and it seems that the citizens believe us that we will increase wages because we increased them. That we will reduce taxes and another because we have already reduced them. That we will build the state where it has not been built properly because we built it in other fields. We have the presumption of credibility. Credibility, trust is not built with nice and big words but with actions. And this is a relationship of trust between the Prime Minister personally, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and all of us who are with him, with the citizens that we must ensure very carefully with even more actions”, concluded Mr. Marinakis.
