Kerameos: Mass screening in schools prevented the largest spread of coronavirus

by

The Minister of Education and Religions, Niki Kerameos, referred to the prevention of the largest spread of the coronavirus by students in society, due to their recent mass control, answering a topical question by SYRIZA MP Nikos Filis on the subject of e-learning in schools. .

According to Ms. Kerameos, this week the most massive screening in schools took place, with three self-diagnostic tests on 1.6 million students. If we had heard SYRIZA not to open schools, these 31,000 potential cases would have been “circulating carelessly, without having any idea that they are potential actors”. They would have seen at least 10 people each, and so we would have 310,000 potential cases, as Ms. Kerameos noted, according to which, only two school departments, out of a total of over 80,000, are closed due to coronavirus.

Mr. Filis, who stressed the need to speed up vaccination of children, pointed out that the incidence of juveniles fell during the holidays and returned to a high rate (24%) during the current period. He even expressed the support of the official opposition in the struggle of the educational community to have “schools open safely”.

On the issue of e-learning, he said that the relevant decision of the Personal Data Protection Authority was a “catapult” and asked Ms. Kerameos if the ministry will comply with it, while describing the relevant agreement with Cisco as a “scandal”.
The Minister of Education replied that none of what the official opposition says about the sale of child data in America is true, that e-learning has been considered legal and that the Authority has pointed out certain technical points, for which it has close cooperation with the ministry. The platform is the same that we use here in Parliament, it is the same that is the official tool of the European Commission, it is the same that you use in your party in your meetings, the Minister of Education remarked.

Also, in the criticism of Mr. Filis that the decision to close the departments with “50% + 1” is arbitrary and political, Ms. Kerameos said that it is not true: This protocol was discussed in September and January and even now it has not been asked by the Scientific Committee to change. He reminded that the epidemiological surveillance was intensified even more and that, with the recommendation of the committee, not only the unvaccinated students and teachers are checked, but also the vaccinated ones, as well as that, in case of a case, a test is performed every day for five days.

As for the institutional indecency of the Ministry of Education towards the Authority, Ms. Kerameos noted that these are said by the party that “also put up with the Supreme Court, because it called in an apology with serious accusations a person close to you.”
