“It is not possible for a foreign country to intervene openly in favor of candidates who report to the Turkish consulate and not to the Greek constitutional legal order”
The issue of the open intervention of the Turkish consulate in Komotini in favor of the SYRIZA MP candidate in Rodopi, Ferhat Ozgur, is raised by the prime minister in his interview on “Proto Thema”.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis reports that “in Rhodope there was indeed an open intervention by the Turkish consulate in favor of a specific candidate. And that’s a problem.”
“It is not possible for a foreign country to intervene openly in favor of specific candidates who are referred to the Turkish consulate and not to the Greek constitutional legal order. It is a matter that should primarily concern the party that chose him, as he becomes a participant in the meddling of another state in the internal affairs of Greece. And note: I am not speaking for all minority MPs, nor for the entire ethnic Muslim minority. I have, after all, supported the religious minority, in the footsteps of Constantinos Mitsotakis, who put equality and equality into practice.”
“Greek Muslims must feel that they have equal opportunities with their fellow Christians and we are doing everything necessary for that. Some, however, want to treat them as levers to create problems in Greece. That’s why some parties should have been much more careful in their choices,” the prime minister also underlines, answering a question about outside interference in the electoral process.
For his part, in a statement, New Democracy’s press representative Akis Skertsos said that “the selection of candidates who adopt the most extreme Turkish propaganda, speak openly about a Turkish and not a Muslim minority in Thrace and are visibly supported by the Turkish consulate – as well as Mr. Zeibek who was elected in Xanthi – raises serious questions about the criteria by which SYRIZA serves the common foreign policy and defense against Turkish revisionism”
