“THE World Environment Day it is not a day of celebration but a day of alarm, for the climate crisis and for the need to implement policies that will deal with its consequences”, said the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras who visited the Byron Forest and Natural Environment Protection Center today, at Immediate.

“We have to realize that the climate crisis is here and it will remain and we all have to adapt our policies in a direction of climate neutrality,” noted Mr. Tsipras and added: “it is an accident that will throughout the pre-election period for the May 21 elections were not opened by this discussion. The discussion was not opened on perhaps the most critical issue of the next day, of tomorrow for our country but also for the planet”.

He also argued that it is crucial for the parties to highlight their positions and proposals.

“It is critical because we may all agree that immediate measures and interventions are needed in the direction of the green transition, but it is absolutely certain that we will disagree on who should pay the costs. Because the green transition must be a fair transition. The green transition must neither lead to energy poverty nor, of course, to a widening of inequalities. It is crucial to go for a sober, composed and radical policy of reforms with the aim of protecting the environment, dealing with the consequences of the climate crisis but also the fair transition which means social support, social policy, so that the costs are not paid by the popular strata and the middle classes”.

Condensing, he underlined: “Protection of the environment, dealing with the climate crisis with a fair social policy. I think this is the future and the crucial answer to the problems of the future.”
