“In its desperate attempt to win votes from the far-right, the government is escalating the dangerous strategy of creating tension and polarization in Thrace and returning the country to other times. Today the member of parliament Ms. Simopoulos attacked the member of parliament of SYRIZA-PS Mr. Bournou because he emphasized that democratic reforms are necessary in order to curb Turkish influence in Thrace” says SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in a statement.

“SYRIZA-PS, through the policies it pursued as a Government and the specific proposals of its program, unwaveringly supports this position which, together with the support for the economic development of Thrace, formed a minimum field of consensus in the framework of the Inter-Party Committee in 2020.

“Clear in the democratic world of the country is the hypocrisy of the ND which, in the context of the Report of the Inter-Party Committee on Thrace, argued:

– the “modernization and improvement of the framework…of minority and religious policy, whether it concerns the educational dimension or the religious dimension” (p. 50)
– the “modernization” of the law on muftis “with the greatest possible acceptance of the minority” and the modernization of the “non-applicable” law on waqf properties (pp. 50-51)
– the establishment of “minority kindergartens and kindergartens” (p. 46)
– “respect for the provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne, any regulation of international law and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights” (p. 45)
– the enrichment of the “social character of Thrace…from the diversity that occupies society and the various minorities that make it up” (p. 50)
– the “respect for her rights
minority provided for by the Treaty of Lausanne and modern law
on minorities” (p. 52)

“It is clear the hypocrisy of a faction whose executives provided meals, met and pre-election photos with the Consul of Turkey and the pseudo-mufti. The only compass of the MPs of SYRIZA-PS is the Constitution of Greece to which they have sworn, the authorities of the Left and the Program of the party. They will find us all against them in the dangerous games they play with sensitive national issues” concludes Koumoundourou.
