“This government always emphasizes efficiency. We like works, not words. And for this we will eventually be judged at national level but also at local level. And I think that when the time comes for us all to take stock, the municipal authority and the government, we will be satisfied because things will have moved substantially in a positive direction. With deeds and not with words “, stressed the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a large meeting at the City Hall of Megara, where the problems faced by the region and the programs launched by the government for its development were examined.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of initiatives and funded programs, which can effectively stimulate the infrastructure and prospects of the local community.

The “Tritsis” Program, a very important tool, was started by the Minister when he was at the Ministry of Interior, Stelios Petsas is now continuing it. “I think you heard important announcements today regarding the inclusion of this very important urban revitalization in the” Tritsis “Program, but also future inclusions related to waste management”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, adding that “to a large extent the speed of integration also depends on the quality and maturity of the studies that you will submit to the Ministry “.

“However, there are important resources to support the Municipalities and I think that these projects will be emblematic projects for the Municipality of Megara and then it will be in your hands, dear mayor – once you secure the funding – to run them very quickly,” he added.

In this context, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas, referred to the projects that will be included in the financing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explaining at the same time that any project characterized by a high level of maturity in terms of studies passes directly to the evaluation committees. He also stressed that special importance is attached to disaster-related projects.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also referred to the importance of proper land use and use. Very important the General Urban Plan, to which you referred and I know the personal interest of Nikos Tagaras in this case, has been put his hand by Thodoris Livanios who with his previous capacity as a predecessor of Stelios, maintains a strong interest for the region, as he comes from Elefsina “, he said.

All these initiatives come to strengthen the broader planning for civil protection. “Significant steps have already been taken in all the areas affected by the devastating fires on the main anti-erosion land containment projects so that we can protect the areas from floods on the one hand and allow nature through natural regeneration and reforestation on the other. to take the long, but usually very nice and effective way, for nature to follow the way of natural rebirth “, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“You are an area hit by natural disasters and we have an obligation to shield your area from floods. But at the same time we have an obligation to plan – and we are already doing – the next firefighting season, so that the summer of ’22 is much better than the very difficult summer of ’21 “, added the Prime Minister, adding that in organizational and administrative level is “very important now the fact that the Forestry Offices have passed to the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment”.

K. Mitsotakis noted that the ND deputies of West Attica keep him informed about all the issues in the region. “Besides, I am still a member of parliament for West Athens. “Therefore, we are essentially neighboring regions, my interest in the west I think is a given and we have proven it in practice,” he added.

Producer support and consumer protection

Reviewing his visit to Megara, the Prime Minister said that the challenges caused by the turmoil in the global energy market were discussed with the businessmen of the region, and the initiatives that have been activated to address the inevitable inflationary consequences of the energy crisis.

“I know that a very big effort is being made by all production units not to pass these increases on to the final consumer. And it is in this direction that we have announced a business support framework from January, for all businesses, with a significant subsidy for the electricity bill so that as a state we can cover part of the increase that entrepreneurs have already seen in their accounts. last months “, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“As you know, there was already a support framework for households – which continues – especially for households with low consumption up to 300 kilowatt hours, this support is very large. But now there is additional support for all businesses. I believe that it is something that will be appreciated by the companies in the area “, he added.

Reduce crime and work against domestic violence

Referring to public order issues, the Prime Minister said that “statistics in general throughout the country and especially in Attica show a reduction in crime.”

“From the first moment, we were committed that the security of the citizen – as you said, Mr. Mayor – is a condition of freedom. “A priority for our government and our purpose is to make this commitment a reality every day”, he continued, while especially for domestic violence, he pointed out that the AT of the region will have a special office to prevent and deal with such phenomena.

“It is also important that he acquires the Police Department and a special office for domestic violence. I was told that there are very few cases of domestic violence that are reported to the Police Department. It is a conquest for the Greek society now, that these incidents can be reported and the victims of domestic violence can seek support first and foremost in the Greek Police. “And we want this office with the appropriate training to enable anyone who is a victim of domestic violence to know where to go and to have the support of the state in this very sensitive issue,” he said.

Regarding the vaccination campaign, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the importance of encouragement at the local level, in order to convince the citizens who are still hesitant.

“We are a little below the national averages in your area. I think we know all the reasons. “But I want to address especially you, the Local Government officials, and tell you that now, in order to be able to convince the few suspects, who may still be thinking of getting vaccinated, your help is very important,” he said. .

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, the Deputy Minister of Interior Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister of Justice and MP of West Attica of New Democracy George Kotsiras, the Deputy Minister of Digital Government Giorgos Paichoros Perodoros Theoros and the deputies of West Attica of ND, Thanassis Bouras and Evangelos Liakos.

Prime Minister’s first visit outside the pre-election period

“This is the first time that an incumbent Prime Minister, outside the pre-election period, visits our Municipality to discuss the problems that concern us”, said at the beginning of the meeting the Mayor of Megara, Grigoris Stamoulis, expressing the certainty that the visit “is not typical “but reflects interest in the area and the desire to provide solutions to outstanding issues.

Concluding his tour of Megara, the Prime Minister had the opportunity to have a coffee in the city center with young people from the area and ONED executives from Megara and Mandra-Eidyllia, together with the new Secretary of the Political Committee of New Democracy, Pavlos Marinaki.
