THE of the KE of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas in today’s interview with “Real FM”, asked specifically about the situation in the National Health System, he said that “every day is confirmed in a tragic way, what all Greek men and women, especially young people, our children were shouting in the streets after the Tempe tragedy: “either their profits or our lives”” and added: “And unfortunately some choose the profits of a few. They give the available funds, whatever they are anyway, to other structures, for other needs, mainly to large business groups – who don’t know what they have anyway – and they don’t consider the lives of people, our fellow human beings, our people” .

He recalled that recently the Parliamentary Group of the KKE had submitted a question to the Parliament about the tragic understaffing of the EKAB, demanding the recruitment of permanent staff, pointing out that “in fact, in the midst of a pandemic, i.e. in 2020-2021, a single announcement was completed for the recruitment of 46 permanent lifeguards throughout the Hellas. In the same period, retirements had reached 150 and in 2022 they were estimated at 100, that is, we are talking about 250 retirements at EKAB, understaffing it even more, with huge shortages, and at the same time the contracts of dozens of auxiliaries are also expiring.

“That is, in the previous shortages, because the staff at the time, together with all those who have now retired or the auxiliaries whose contracts are ending, were too few, as a result of which we mourn victims again, such as the woman in Kos, the mother today in Nea Makri, like so many children, so many people all over the country” added the head of the KKE and pointed out:

“This dangerous understaffing in human resources and technical equipment leads to an unacceptable situation both in island Greece and in Attica as well.”

Responding to the remark that “in Kos, people say that there are two new ambulances, new, which are unused due to the lack of staff” D. Koutsoubas said: “Yes, because there are no drivers, there are no rescuers”.
