In the question submitted by the MEP of the party Kostas Papadakis, according to relevant information, the following are mentioned: “A few days before the municipal elections in Heimarra, the Albanian authorities proceeded with unproven charges to arrest the candidate for mayor of Heimarra from the Greek minority in Albania, Fredi Beleri and his collaborators. After the elections, Beleri was elected mayor, however, to this day he remains a prisoner and under the responsibility of the Albanian government. The unacceptable continuation of his pre-trial detention is an attempt to hinder the political activity of the Greek minority. Based on the above How does the High Representative/Vice-President of the EU stand on the request for the immediate release by the Albanian authorities of the elected mayor Heimarras F. Beleris?”.
