The calendar read January 22, 2022 when Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis was as Prime Minister unexpectedly at Pier E7 of the Port of Piraeus to meet our fellow homeless people who were staying there.

Among them is Kostas Z. O “Mr Kostas», a figure familiar to all who had passed through. Aged 63, originally from Xanthi. He spent a large period of his life there as he was professionally active, reaching the point of even employing 25 employees in the businesses he maintained. And yet, his life took an unexpected turn that led him to become homeless in Athens.

Mr. Kostas, as he had mentioned to Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the time, had already been living on the pier for 1.5 years and wanted to share with him the problems of “his family”, as he called the people who had turned the pier into their home. Problems that were looking for a solution such as housing, food provision, medical care and work. Then Kyriakos Mitsotakis had listened to Mr. Costas very carefully and had committed himself to these will change.

In November 2022 this happened for Mr. Kostas. He himself now felt ready to take life into his own hands and through the Housing and Work programme. found home in Kaminia, but also a job for him, from contracted employers from the program that corresponds to his abilities and his age. It has already been seven months as a beneficiary of the program and his life has now changed drastically.

A few days ago, in fact, he was at the Theories of the Hellenic Parliament as the only guest of the ND State Parliament candidate, Giorgos Stamatis, with whom he now shares a strong friendship.

“In an instant, everything was lost,” Mr. Kostas used to confess. But in the next one, everything can start again.
