The president of SYRIZA-PS expressed the opinion that the “fragmentation of the progressive vote” will only benefit the NDAlexis Tsipras, in an interview he gave to the ANT1 news bulletin and is being aired this hour.

Alexis Tsipras noted that in the very short time since the first elections, SYRIZA attempted to “decode the message” of the ballot box and make any changes it could. As he said, there was an attempt to renew political staff but also an attempt to focus the political dialogue on the programs of the parties for the next day and not on the past.

“The most critical thing is to realize that now the elections are being held with a different electoral system and it is not a second round,” said Mr. Tsipras, although as he noted “it obviously overshadows the result of the previous ballot.” However, he stressed, in this new electoral contest “hard dilemmas” are posed.

Referring to the simple analogy, he recalled that it was a constant request of the Left, but also a vision of his own in 2016 in order to change the political system and not be “toxic”, but to promote collaborations based on programmatic convergences. However, he admitted that he suffered a strategic defeat at the hands of the progressive forces who did not want to “dance the tango” as he characteristically mentioned. Thus, he noted that SYRIZA was constantly refused in the hand of cooperation that it tended to, and especially PASOK-KINAL “left the door open to the ND and completely closed to the perspective of a progressive government” resulting in “a fragmentation of the progressive vote that only benefited the conservative faction”.

Now “the citizen is faced with the dilemmas posed by the political system”, since the elections will be held with the system of enhanced proportionality and thus two governance programs are competing, stressing that there remain “two parties in power”.

In this context, he accused the ND of an arrogant attitude and arrogance after the elections, warning that “what they seek for the next day” is not simply to form a government but an “uncontrollable government”. That is why, he said, it is necessary to strengthen SYRIZA-PS, in order not to weaken the ability of the official opposition to put a barrier to these aspirations, in the Parliament.
