Lawyer, Secretary General of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group from 2021
The new Deputy Minister of Justice, Ioannis Bougas, is a Member of Parliament for Fokida (single party) and secretary general of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group. He was unanimously elected to the post of secretary general in January 2021.
The 59-year-old Ioannis Bougas was born in Amfissa. He graduated in 1982 from the Lyceum of Amfissa and in the same year was admitted to the Law School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He holds a doctorate from the Law School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens with a Master’s degree in Civil Procedural Law.
He is also a lawyer at the Supreme Court and the Council of State. He is also a mediator at the Mediation Center of the Athens Bar Association, as well as an accredited mediator at the Ministry of Justice.
At the same time, he is a founding member of the Union of Greek Civil Lawyers and a member of the Union of Greek Lawyers. He has written a book with a legal subject, while he has participated in collective publishing projects with legal studies.
He was involved with the Local Organizations (OTA) in the three years 1995-1998 when he was elected municipal councilor of Amfissa, while in the three years 1999-2002 he was the prefectural councilor of Fokida.
Member of Parliament Fokidos was elected with the N.D. in 2004 for the 5 years 2004-2009 and in 2009 he was Deputy Minister of Development. He is also a member of the Greek delegation of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Finally, he is married to teacher Amalia Papaioannou and they have three children, Dimitris, Vassilis and Stavroula.
