“We are on the verge of making orders, if necessary, and if there is no response from private doctors,” clarified the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris through SKAI 100.3.

The Minister of Health acknowledged that the health system is being tested, but clarified that there are strengths and empty ICU beds

As Mr. Plevris pointed out, in Northern Greece the pressure on Covid beds is very high, as non Covid beds are also provided. Immediately – he added – there is a bed in ICU or MAF for patients who are intubated.

The minister stressed that Southern Greece is not under pressure. As he characteristically mentioned, at the moment there are over 2,000 empty single beds

He said that the majority of vaccinated people in the ICU have passed or are close to closing the vaccination semester. In fact, he did not rule out the possibility that the instructions for the third dose will change and that it will start to be administered earlier than 6 months. The competent vaccination committee meets every week noted.

Referring to the anti-COVID drugs, he stated that 2000 monoclonal antibodies have been ordered from our country and will have arrived by mid-November, when the relevant approval will be given by the European Medicines Agency.

He also announced that our country has already reached an agreement with the Merck company to place the order for the antiviral pill against coronavirus, while the same is done for the Pfizer preparation. Mr. Plevris made it known that these drugs will be paid for by the state, however he noted that they will not be widely used.

The minister clarified that these drugs should be administered in the first days of infection with the virus, and do not concern cases of serious illness.
