In terms of dominant political power in Greece, as well as in the European People’s Party, where the ND is currently the party with the greatest power (representation), Kyriakos goes to Brussels for the first time (June 29 and 30) after his re-election Mitsotakis.

The prime minister will participate this morning in the preparatory session of the EPP, and then he will meet at the headquarters of the European Parliament with its president Roberta Metsola.

Ukraine, Economy, Immigration, relations with China are the main topics on the agenda of the European Council.

Immigration will be a key topic of discussion at the European Council, following the relevant conclusions of 27 February last. It will be the first discussion at the level of leaders on the agreement in principle of the member states (at ministerial level) on the 2 main pieces of legislation of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum.

It is noted that this agreement covers some basic aspirations of Greece, such as the mandatory Solidarity Mechanism, the protection of the EU’s external borders. and the decongestion at the borders and the necessary adjustments to the Dublin Regulation to the needs of the first receiving countries, such as Greece.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to government sources, is expected to repeat the basic lines of the policy that Greece has followed, as well as the need for a comprehensive and coherent policy to deal with a problem that is not Greek, but international. The guarding of the external borders of the E.U. it is one dimension of a comprehensive policy, which must address the prevention of illegal human trafficking and find new ways to crack down on the criminal networks of traffickers.

The prime minister is also expected to underline the importance of strengthening cooperation with third countries and the implementation of return agreements.
