“Governing today is much more difficult than it has been at any time in the past,” said the deputy sports minister.
The Deputy Minister of Sports, Giannis Oikonomouin an interview he granted to the radio station, Real FM, emphasized that modesty, pragmatism and efficiency are the main characteristics that govern the governance culture of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the New Democracy.
For there to be a positive result of a government, nowadays, it needs a lot of hard work. It requires expertise, realism, to perceive the world as it is and not as you would like it to be in your mind. To change things, obviously, but not to move in the constellation of utopia or delusion. To have quick reflexes, to be able to understand and translate what is happening in your neighborhood, in your country, on the planet, because the interaction is direct and fast. He wants pragmatism and an emphasis on the result. And this does not come with words, nor with praises, condemnations and aphorisms. It comes with work.
The exercise of governance today is much more difficult than it has been at any time in the past. Democracy always needs mature parties, people who understand what needs to be done, responsible people, institutional seriousness. We, for our part, what we have to do is to respond to the mandate of the citizens. As long as we do our job well, the political space of New Democracy will expand and increase its distance from other political parties that do not understand the exercise of politics, as I have described it.
First of all, in politics you should not see an opponent, that is, the one who wants to convince the people to gain more support. In politics, you have to see the problems of the citizens as an opponent, and there is no room for arrogance and complacency. This, after all, is the perception of the Prime Minister. He said it from the first moment, he said it after the result of the first elections, it was a key point of his message as Prime Minister of all Greeks the night the Greek citizens re-elected him Prime Minister, but also his central message in our first Council of Ministers. It is the whole culture of the Mitsotakis governance with modesty, close to the world, hard work to face the problems and constantly open new paths for the next generations, to shape the conditions so that the country takes steps and conquers places and goes high with a horizon of four years, ten years. And for the present, but also for the next generations.
The main criterion for a Government is its efficiency. The Prime Minister has formed a Government on the basis of how in his own estimation the form of government will perform to the best of his ability, will meet the expectations of society, his own very high expectations in a programme, a plan of action and a form of government – that has been tested and the previous period, it will improve where it suffered, it will be strengthened even more where we have to run faster – with the aim of achieving our goals, dealing with citizens’ problems, reducing inequalities, standing by their side, facing the , what challenges befall us and to open up ways to advance for all Greek women and all Greeks”.
