The Holy Synod unanimously accepted the proposal of the Archbishop of America
The election of a Metropolitan as Hierarch of the current Diocese of New Jersey was proposed by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America in Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in which he participated.
In fact, Archbishop Elpidophoros had the opportunity to inform the members of the Holy and Holy Synod about the ongoing developments regarding the proposed revision of Constitution of the Archdiocese of America.
The Holy Synod unanimously accepted the Archbishop’s proposal, since, according to the current charter, the Hierarch who is responsible for the Diocese of New Jersey must also be its Metropolitan. Besides, the Provincial Synod of America will convene on July 5 exclusively for this purpose. Bishop Medea Apostolos, who currently has liturgical and pastoral responsibilities for the Diocese of New Jersey, is among the candidates for the position of Metropolitan.
Before his trip to Constantinoplethe Archbishop of America had held the first of a series of online meetings with 150 distinguished clergy from the archdiocesan district, the Diocese of Boston and the Metropolitan of New Jersey to further consider proposed revisions to the Constitution of the Archdiocese of America.
Next, he is scheduled to meet in person with the clergy fraternity of the Diocese of Chicago on July 7. Earlier, on July 5, he is scheduled to meet online with the clergy of the Diocese of Detroit, and then, on August 1, with the clergy of the Atlanta Diocese, on August 3 with the clergy of the Diocese of Denver and the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and on August 11 with the clergy of the Metropolis of Saint Francis.
