The announcement of Atromitos in detail:
Fourth transfer for our team ahead of the 2023/24 season.
PAE Atromitos announces the acquisition of Nikos Vergos on a free transfer from Wolfsberger, signing a contract for the next two years.
The 27-year-old (13/1/96) plays as an attacker and started his career from Kilkis and in 2009 he was acquired by Olympiacos, who enrolled him in their Academies and in 2013 at the age of just 17 he made his debut, while in 2014 he competed with his team at Champions League level, specifically in the match against Manchester United.
From 2015 to 2018 he played on loan at Elche (2015/16), in the second team of Real Madrid (2016/17) and at Vasas (2017/18) and in August 2018 he was acquired by Panathinaikos to be followed by a loan at Spanish Hercules (2020).
In the summer of 2020, he was acquired by Panaitolikos where he stayed for two years and thanks to his performances he was transferred to the Austrian Wolfsberger. He finished this season in Lamia scoring four goals, helping them stay in the division.
After the completion of the formal part of the agreement, Nikos Vergos spoke to atromitosfc.gr:
“I am very happy that everything went smoothly and I am now a player of Atromitos. It was something I really wanted and Atromitos was a key reason for me to return permanently to Greece, as it offers very good working conditions for any footballer and his ambitions are always high.
I want to thank my new coach, Chris Coleman, for the trust and of course the president, Mr. Giorgos Spanos and the Technical Director, Yiannis Angelopoulos, who showed how much they wanted this transfer to be completed and for me to come to Peristeri.
Now, my goal is to help our team have a successful season, especially this year which is our 100th birthday and that is an extra motivation for all of us to make our world happy too.
Now we make our appointment in our stadium, with our people to lead Atromitos as high as possible!”.
