“Access to Justice cannot be abused” clarified Mr. Floridis
Penalties and fines for the existing plaintiffs, in order to put an end to the industry of lawsuits and lawsuits, announced the Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis speaking to the Plenary of the Parliament in the context of the programmatic statements of the government.
Mr. Floridis announced that the government of the New Democracy will implement a specific plan to upgrade the Judiciary which will have as its main goal the fast awarding of cases.
“Access to Justice cannot be abused” clarified Mr. Floridis and added that the new judicial map will include – not abolitions – but the consolidation of courts in a district and a more rational use of judges.
“There are issues in the Criminal Code, which we need to readjust,” said the Minister of Justice, during the discussion of the programmatic statements. It was preceded by the president of the KO of SYRIZA, Sokratis Famellos, who in his brief intervention called on the Minister of Justice to inform the national delegation “what will be done with the scandal of the lending of parties and media and what will be done with the immunity of bank executives”.
“Infidelity should not be prosecuted by summons. That is, those who commit infidelity should sue themselves. That’s what you did in the 2019 Code. Also in matters of fraud, we should have prosecution ex officio. I will bring these back ” replied the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis and added: “We have to purge the Criminal Code of provisions that are strange. They protect specific people. And don’t have any doubt that we will do it. There is a lot of work to be done there. The Greek people are rightly protesting because it tells you that ‘I am led to a court for the slightest thing, while some others, how do they manage to escape it?'”
Addressing the president of SYRIZA’s KO, Mr. Floridis took occasion from the report of Sokratis Famellos about a provision that the Tsipras government had established in the Criminal Code on the eve of the 2019 elections and pointed out characteristically: “And because you referred to the banks, Mr. Famellos, there was an article in the Criminal Code that criminalized bank usury. This curiously disappeared in the 2019 revision. There is no article on bank usury from the SYRIZA Criminal Code and you are talking about protecting borrowers etc. etc.?”.
