Theodorikakos: Increase of offices for domestic violence – What does it say about the rape of the 24-year-old

by

The increase of the offices for dealing with domestic violence, as the phenomena have increased significantly lately, was announced by the Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, in an interview given to Real fm radio, while he made special reference to the rape of the 24-year-old in Thessaloniki.

“The message is clear, the laws apply to all people and we do not care what is their position in public life, or what is their financial situation,” the minister stressed about the gang rape of the 24-year-old and added: laws are laws, they concern everyone and they are observed for everyone. Also, the image that I will tell you that I have for the police, is that it has done its job professionally. We do everything so that nothing is hidden from a case, it is just as important that we do not become judges ourselves, the third parties. The case, with all the facts, with all the data, with all the results of the investigations, has been forwarded to Justice. I was in Thessaloniki until yesterday afternoon and I asked if the results of the toxicological tests that have been done on the girl have come out. I want to note that these examinations are done by a laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the answer I have received from the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki is that they have not come “.

Regarding the cases of domestic violence, he mentioned:

“I believe that the pandemic has played a role, because the confinement of people in the house for many months, of course, creates additional conditions for conflicts and a very difficult situation. Our goal is to inform women – and I’m referring to women, because they are mainly the victims of domestic violence, but not exclusively, because there are also cases where men are victims. We call on them to contact the police and report any violent incidents. To this end, we are going to increase the offices of domestic violence, to multiply the forces that deal with this issue. We are also steadily and methodically increasing our cooperation with the Local Government in this field, because too many people, mainly women, report these incidents to the municipalities, to the social services of the municipalities “.

So far, there are six offices of domestic violence, 5 in Attica and one in Thessaloniki, which Mr. Theodorikakos visited yesterday and as he said, he has a lot of work to do: “Just understand that in four months he dealt with 180 such cases, while in the whole prefecture of Thessaloniki in the same period, had 1000 cases of domestic violence. Another crucial area is the family, that is, how we raise our children, how we raise our boys and girls, if we create the conditions for them to respect, love, create pure, honest friendships and not relationships that end in violence and in very bad situations “, the minister underlined.

Mr. Theodorikakos, in his interview, also referred to crime, for which he said that the last five months there has been a decline of 20% to 25%, as well as security at universities, which he described as an absolute priority for the government, and stressed the issue. of the cooperation of the Greek Police with the university community.

“As far as the implementation of the law is concerned, the law says that the Rectors must make the plans, they must put tourniquets at the entrances of the Universities, in order for the entrance to be controlled, as well as cameras,” the minister concluded.
