Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited in the morning the building where “Mignon” used to be housed, in the center of Athens, which is being reconstructed to turn it into a “green” complex
In the morning, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the building that formerly housed “Mignon”, in the center of Athens, which is being reconstructed to turn it into a “green” complex that will house offices, shops and apartments.
The Prime Minister was informed about the progress of the work and had the opportunity to talk with workers. At the end of his visit, Kyriakos Mitsotakis made the following statement:
“The historical “Mignon” is identified with the heyday but also with the decline of the historical center of Athens. I am indeed glad that through this important investment the very great investment interest in the revival of an area which for many years had been abandoned to its fate is certified – personally I know this well, because for some time my political office was here , at the corner of Patisia and Chalkokondyli.
The region is changing, however, just as the whole of Greece is changing
A country which is now an attractive destination for investments and of course the center of Athens offers precisely these important opportunities.
Let me focus on the fact that this investment – beyond its great semiotics: after decades this historic building will come back to life – let me focus on the fact that we are talking about a mixed use. So we’re not just talking about a hotel. We are talking about spaces for shops, office spaces and residences, something that gives life 24 hours a day to an area of Athens that at night had – and to a certain extent still has – its difficulties.
And of course in the fact that all the investments that are made today concerning the construction industry are investments that are made with the highest environmental standards, both in terms of the removal of asbestos and also in terms of the energy footprint, the energy consumption of this building.
An effort which has the total support of the government
Also, the fact that this important, difficult and complex project is being carried out by a Greek development company, by a Greek construction company, with Greek architects, demonstrates that in this field too we are at the forefront of the global vanguard, thus contributing to the important urban regeneration of the center of Athens. An effort which has the total support of the government, always in collaboration with the Municipality, with the Local Self-Government. What is happening in the center of Athens today, despite any temporary difficulties, is indeed very impressive. I believe the best is yet to come, we haven’t seen it yet.”
Afterwards, Kyriakos Mitsotakis walked in the area of Omonia, where he talked to shopkeepers.
