Mr. Famellos noted that while the result of the elections was victorious “this in no way means that the four years were victorious for the social majority”.
The president of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, Sokratis Famellos, launched an attack on the prime minister, deconstructing the “central proclamation for the new wave of modernization”, arguing that “his policy is not modernizing but anachronistic and does not have its eye on the new European policies and does not respond to the challenges and uncertainties of the future”.
Mr. Famellos made reference to the issue of accuracy by noting: “Mr. Mitsotakis Greek households are suffering from food inflation, 12.2% in June, an increase for 15 consecutive months at a double-digit rate, overall rising for 25 months. And in fact, greed inflation, that is, inflation from the profits of businesses that you do not control. The antidote is not the market pass which subsidizes the profits from the taxation of citizens. And from what was seen from the position of Mr. Skylakakis, you do not have a strategy for energy when we proposed a fixed rate of profit in energy”.
He specifically referred to the matter that arose with the Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis: “The minister clearly stated in the discussion of the programmatic statements that he will change the provision (for the non-pursuit of bank executives), a serious institutional issue arises. Will you finally bring a provision to remove the immunity of the bank executives who gave the air loans to your parties and the media? And if not, how reliable is the government when the Minister of Justice submits personal opinions in the programmatic statements?”
He then focused on the prime minister’s central announcement about the new wave of modernization, asking: “But what is modernization for Mr. Mitsotakis?” Is it the lack of permanent EKAV rescuers and the deaths of our fellow citizens in rural carts? Are the safety deficiencies and risks that everyone pointed out to Mr. Karamanlis that led to the tragic accident in Tempe? Where is the remote control you promised to complete? Are the wiretapping of ministers, military leadership, political leaders, journalists and businessmen directly linked to Maximus modernization? Is it the violation of the independence of the independent authorities, which yesterday Mr. Floridis threatened that they cannot be unchecked because they judged you in compliance with their constitutional obligation? Is it the staff state, i.e. the return to a centralized state with cronies, but also intimidation of anyone who does not comply and bribery that is unprecedented in the blue children? Are the waiters in Rhodes at sea, or a society without collective agreements and with a weakened SEPE that controls working conditions? Or yesterday’s fatal accident at the Elefsina shipyards with a heart patient working overtime in the liopyri? And of course, the privatizations that are your basic doctrine are not modernization.”
Mr. Famellos argued that “the private sector cannot solve the big problems” and added that while in the rest of the European countries, they are returning to the state, Mr. Mitsotakis was handing over the majority of PPC and the Board of Directors of ELPE to private individuals and selling 100 % of natural monopolies such as the natural gas network”.
Returning to the central question, he said: “But is the suspension of the demolition of arbitrary constructions for so many years modernization?” Because no matter how communicatively you focus on Mykonos, under your own government the arbitrary demolition of beaches, seashores, riverbeds and banks of rivers and lakes has stopped! And indeed of those finally judged as to be demolished. Nor is it a modernization that the Special Spatial Framework for Renewable Energy Sources has been announced since 2019 and goes into 2024! and we’ll see. Green energy without planning. The same is the case with the Local Urban Development Plans that you froze for 4 years while you had received a ready assignment program from the SYRIZA government. Why; But why don’t you care about the environment except in terms of communication because it raises awareness among the citizens and the youth. Just as it is not modernization in the public sector with interviews and non-objective tools from blue-collar children. This is the new system for selecting heads and administrations of public bodies of Ms. Kerameos with the right person in the right position. That is, the appropriate member of the ND?”
Condensing, Mr. Famellos accused Mr. Mitsotakis that “for 4 years you were the definition of the party state”.
Always in the same context, Mr. Famellos argued that it is not modernization “the multiplication of inequalities with the degradation of public universities and the minimum admission base and the constitutional change, with the exclusion of thousands of young people from the universities, resulting in the strengthening of a new market private colleges, as well as the abolition of art courses and sociology’.
He also referred to the intention to revise Article 16 of the Constitution and asked about PASOK’s stance: “Now, you will attempt to revise the Constitution, abolish Article 16 and facilitate the establishment of private universities. What will be the attitude of PASOK KINAL? Will he go hand in hand with New Democracy in revising Article 16 of the Constitution to pave the way for private universities? It is clear that we will be opposite”.
He asked: “will you look for consents on your right for the broader revision of the constitution that you want to advance?”.
In closing, he stated that SYRIZA will vote against the programmatic statements of the Mitsotakis government and explained: “We know that he will not abide by what he hypocritically says today in his programmatic statements. But also that his policy is not modernizing but anachronistic.”
For SYRIZA, he clarified: “We, the SYRIZA Progressive Alliance, want our homeland, with this history, with these wealth-producing resources, with this beautiful environment, with these people to be at the forefront of European countries. And to play a strong geopolitical role in its neighborhood and beyond. Because, in the face of great uncertainties, the answer cannot be the sell-off of public and private property, bribery and the authoritarianism of a right wing 70 years ago. We need a new political plan that is not the apotheosis of the uncontrolled market and profiteering that creates poverty, inequality, workers who “swim” and hide in refrigerators and EMS with firefighters. In your system, even big business is underprivileged if they don’t talk to your MPs and ministers.”
In closing, he underlined: “SYRIZA-PS is the only political force that can represent the other political proposal. This alternative proposal is focused on work, innovation, production of high added value. With safety and hygiene at work, with indexation of wages, with retroactive benefits for pensioners. Finally, no development can be sustainable if its results do not spread throughout society. If it does not ensure access to social goods. For all of the above, we will not support a government that increases inequalities and questions and discredits and degrades democracy and institutions. We give a vote of confidence only to the society and to the citizens that we will support. We give a vote of confidence to the Greek economy. We give a vote of confidence in the values of democracy and progress. For all this, SYRIZA-PS must be and will be even stronger. Because it is the only political force that guarantees a sustainable plan. Because it has no commitments and does not serve interests, only the interests and needs of society and especially of the new generation”.
