“We are implementing a new, modern and effective control mechanism for the effective control of the welfare structures of our country”, said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, regarding the new control process that has started to be implemented in December and will be completed in the whole territory in mid-February.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, “for the first time, at the initiative of the Undersecretary, in cooperation with the National Transparency Authority (EAD), the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice, mixed scales have been set up to conduct structures for minors, people with disabilities, but also in nursing homes.
The purpose of this innovative control mechanism is to proceed with both the administrative control of the structures and the thorough medical evaluation of each guest individually. For this reason, doctors, psychiatrists, medical examiners and social workers specialized in abuse participate in these steps, together with the inspectors of the EAD.
The conclusions of the first round of inspections will determine the new framework for effective control of the welfare structures of the country “.
Ms. Michailidou stressed: “The state control mechanism for social structures is decentralized. The Regions are the ones that have the responsibility of control both in administrative and in level of quality of service provision. We noticed, then, that the scope of the audits so far was legally limited and did not correspond to the services we want to provide to our vulnerable fellow citizens. That is why we immediately proceeded to change the legislation and, now, we leave no room for faulty controls. But we did not stop there. In collaboration with the National Transparency Authority, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice, we have created, for the first time, mixed control scales, in order to ensure the living conditions and health of all beneficiaries hosted in the structures. We utilize the most modern control mechanism and create a strong protection network for everyone “.
For his part, the Commander of the National Transparency Authority, Angelos Binis, noted: “Strengthening the framework for monitoring the effective operation and quality of services provided to guests in the welfare structures of the country are operational priorities for the National Transparency Authority. For this reason, we are actively participating in the relevant plan of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs “.
