The Israeli-Turkish Foreign Ministry contacted after 13 years

by

The foreign ministers of Israel and Turkey had a telephone conversation today, for the first time in 13 years.

According to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s press office, Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu called Yair Lapid to ask about his health after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

The Israeli foreign minister was diagnosed with coronavirus on January 10 and was released from compulsory quarantine earlier in the week.

According to the online edition of the Israeli newspaper “Gentiot Ahronot”, the foreign ministers discussed the relations between the two countries.

The Lapid-Tsavousoglu phone call is seen as the latest sign of a resurgence in relations between the two countries, which were strained after the deadly Israeli commando raid on the Mavi Marmara ship off Gaza in 2010.

It is recalled that on Tuesday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Israeli President Isaac Herzog is likely to visit Turkey soon.
