The debate opens in SYRIZA on how to elect the new president. First of all, the four candidates are expected to arrange the conditions under which the “telecombat” will be held in the next period.

Nikos Pappas would propose to have a televised meeting before the end of July and one before the end of August. Efi Ahtsioglou appears positive, simply stressing that it cannot be carried out at a time when the country has surrendered to the flames.

The same perspective exists from Euclid Tsakalotos, with executives from his environment stressing that because the presidential candidates are not political rivals, the main thing is to shape the framework of the process so that an in-depth discussion can take place. In other words, to listen to the proposals that are put on the table and to facilitate the meaningful dialogue. Stefanos Tzoumakas also says “yes” to a possible “debate”.

A discussion is expected to take place in the next few days on whether electronic voting will be allowed. It is clear that in Koumoundourou they want the number of members who will vote to approach 150,000, as in May 2022.

Then, of course, the facts were different, with Alexis Tsipras being the only candidate, inaugurating a new process. The majority wants to qualify the traditional way with ballot boxes and screens.

A new conversation, however, was put on the table yesterday by Efi Ahtsioglou, who, speaking to OPEN, did not rule out that the elections be opened not only to members, but also to friends according to the standards of PASOK.

“At a time when citizens largely have a disdain for social participation, a disdain for the functioning of parties, I would be in favor of any process that would give them the opportunity to get involved even a little, so yes, I have no disagreement,” emphasized the former Minister of Labor.

In any case, those who on September 10 decide to take part in the process of internal party elections will be able to register as members until the last moment, just like last time. The lists will be closed for the repeat elections on September 16 if they need to be held.
