“Relations with Greece, relations with Cyprus and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean are among the vital elements in our efforts to re-establish constructive relations with Turkey” emphasized the High Representative
The issue of EU relations with Turkey is a two-way issue, said Mr Joseph Borel asked by APE-MPE about what steps Ankara should take from now on and what the EU expects from it, during the press conference he gave after the conclusion of the SIS in Brussels, while he underlined that the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean is one of the vital elements in our efforts to re-establish constructive relations with Turkey.
“It’s a two-way thing. It is not only about what the EU expects from Turkey, but also what Turkey expects from the EU. Obviously there are many issues on the table. THE Turkey he said he is interested once again, for example, in the review of the customs union agreement, or the visa liberalization,” the EU High Representative noted.
He added that “these are the two most important issues for Turkey, which he would like to raise in the near future, but we hope that there will be a de-escalation of the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean and that there will be serious efforts to restart the talks on the Cyprus issue on the basis of the agreements that have already been accepted and adopted by the United Nations.”
“Relations with Greece, relations with Cyprus and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean is one of the vital elements in our efforts to re-establish constructive relations with Turkey” concluded the High Representative.
