The reaction of the government representative Pavlos Marinakis his statements caused Yannis Ragousis and SYRIZA’s attitude towards the bill for the vote of Greeks living abroad.

The statement of Pavlos Marinakis in more detail:

The Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to unite the Greeks, investing in strengthening national unity, not with words, but with actions. In the official opposition, they want Greece as small as their horizons are narrow.

It is really sad that SYRIZA executives insult our fellow citizens who live outside Greece. The executive of SYRIZA, Yiannis Ragousis, stated today, referring to the bill for lifting the voting restrictions of the Greek diaspora, that “another Prime Minister will be elected than the one voted for by the Greek people”, essentially saying that Greeks abroad are not Greek citizens.

According to the usual tactics of the official opposition party, he even spoke of “altering the result”. This is, in addition to an unprecedented provocation, also a blatant lie: the law to be passed does not expand the electorate, but facilitates our fellow citizens who are already registered in the electoral rolls, to vote from their place of residence. At the same time, the executive of SYRIZA Anna Elefanti did not hesitate to declare that “the lifting of the restrictions is for the benefit of the extreme right”, thus characterizing as extreme right our fellow citizens who live outside of Greece.

As if such lies were not enough, SYRIZA seeks to create a two-speed electorate, formulating, with today’s amendment, a proposal that our fellow citizens outside of Greece elect four foreign MPs from a single ballot and that their vote is not counted in the overall election result. In simple words: those who have the possibility to come to Greece will vote for the party they want and their vote will be counted in the overall election result, while the rest will not.

In a few days the Greek Parliament will take a historic decision, restoring an injustice of decades and leaving hypocrisy and toxicity behind.
