With their joint statement against the violence after the brutal murder of the 29-year-old AEK fan, Michalis, the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis and the Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomasevic, condemn the events in New Philadelphia, stressing that violence has no nationality. In the same statement, they express the hope that the perpetrators will be found and punished soon.

In particular, the mayors of Athens and Zagreb report that “blind violence and blood have no place in the stadiums, in the cities, in our society. We strongly condemn the brutal crime that led to the loss of a young man’s life and the sad incidents of hooligans that endangered the lives of innocent citizens and young children. Violence has no nationality. Her only homeland is hate. We hope that the perpetrators will be found as soon as possible and punished in an exemplary manner, so that we never experience such tragic events again. In these moments, words are poor. Our deepest condolences to the victim’s family“, and add:

Athens and Zagreb maintain a friendly relationship, which as mayors we are committed to strengthening even more. Our cooperation will not be undermined by isolated incidents of violence».

It is noted that yesterday evening the Mayor of Zagreb, Mr. Tomasevic, sent a letter to the Mayor of Athens, stressing that he is shocked by the events and expressing, on behalf of the citizens of the capital of Croatia, his sincere condolences to all the Athenians for the murder of the young man fan of AEK, while a little later he also contacted him by phone.
