Today is a day of remembrance which reminds us of Greece’s unreserved stance in critical moments, in defense of its territorial integrity, says the Minister of Defense, Nikos Dendias, in his post, on the occasion of the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin, but also the anniversary of the torpedoing of cruiser “Elli”.
The full statement of Mr. Dendias:
Today is a great day for Orthodoxy, which celebrates the Dormition of the Virgin, but also for our Armed Forces, who honor those who fell in the torpedoing of the “Ellis”, on August 15, 1940, in Tinos.
A moment in our modern history, which, combined with the saga of “No” that followed, reminds us of Greece’s unreserved stance at critical moments, in defense of its territorial integrity.
Our Armed Forces are still following this path today.
With the support of the Greek people, in a spirit of self-confidence and national unity.
Many Happy Returns to all those who are celebrating. Happy birthday to the Greek women and men
