Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had today a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, about the incidents that took place in the Dead Zone and the attack by Turkish Cypriots on members of the UN in Pyla (see video).
The Prime Minister expressed his strong disapproval of the unacceptable attacks by Turkish Cypriots against the members of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), in the area of Pyla.
Greece and Cyprus are fully coordinated in order to take the appropriate actions at the international level, according to a relevant announcement by Maximos.
Earlier, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in which it emphasized: “We unequivocally condemn today’s unacceptable attacks”
“The attempt to create executions within the dead zone is a flagrant violation of the status quo, while the attack on members of the UN peacekeeping force constitutes an act of contempt for international legality” it is noted.
“Illegal operations must be stopped immediately and there is a need to avoid any kind of activity that will cause further escalation. Similar actions do not contribute at all to the efforts of the UN to revive the talks for the solution of the Cyprus problem”, says Athens.
Greece is in full coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and will take all appropriate actions towards international organizations and governments.
According to KYPE information, the Cypriot president is in constant contact with all the parties involved, the Greek government, the EU High Representative Josep Borrell, the EU institutions, and the embassies of permanent members of the Security Council.
