In three weeks, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will speak at the TIF and will certainly refer to measures taken by the government, which will be targeted and concern vulnerable social groups.
Trying to balance between growing needs of Greek society and especially the vulnerable groups affected by it continued precision in food and the imperative for fiscal discipline paid by the financial staff of the government.
Since last week, and especially after the publication of the data from the execution of the budget, there have been reports calling for a new support package, which is probably not currently in the government’s priorities, as at least stated by circles of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance who were invited to comment on the publications in question.
As they pointed out, “the government always monitors social problems without ignoring the need for a serious fiscal policy which is the foundation of the overall economic policy. In this context and based on the pre-election program of the New Democracy, a series of citizen support measures of 4.4 billion euros with a 4-year horizon were recently adopted.
The same circles of the ministry came to the conclusion that “the government will continue on the same line, always combining social sensitivity and fiscal stability.”
Based on the budget data, as reported by sources from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, it appears that although there is a better performance of tax revenues until July, this is fiscally calculated at 874 million euros and not 2.34 billion euros which is cash outperformance.
In fact, at the moment when Stability Program provision has already been included for a better performance of 1.7 billion euros in the whole year compared to the Budget, as well as an increase in spending.

In three weeks, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will speak from the stage of the TIF and will certainly refer to measures taken by the government, which will be targeted and will concern vulnerable social groups.
But, undoubtedly, the content of any measures announced will be, as government sources state, in the context of the strength of the economy, which will in no way disrupt fiscal stability, in a year in which the top pursuit is the acquisition of the investment tier.
In no case, however, as the same sources state stability is not going to be disturbed which is also the strong card of the country.
On the other hand, of course, there are the needs of society that are far from being ignored by the government, as the relevant ministers state at every opportunity.
But which one? could be the measures where will they be in the quiver of Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his ascension to the nymph of Thermaikos?
- Extension of the Market Pass for another two months, i.e. until the end of the year. In a few days, the platform will open for new applications, those who did not apply last year will do so, and the payment for the August-October period will probably be made once at the end of the following month.
- New system for electricity bills. A system that will be targeted and not horizontal and will replace the existing one. The relevant Ministries of Finance and Energy are considering various scenarios for extending the mechanism until the end of the year, which will provide some stability in the event of an increase in the stock market price.
- Increasing the heating allowance and granting it to more people, since the price of diesel tends to be at last year’s levels.
- New awarding of the accuracy check as last year. It will be a new emergency benefit of 200 – 250 euros for low pensioners, uninsured seniors, people with disabilities and the long-term unemployed and if it receives the “green light” it will be granted at Christmas. Last year it was given to 1.3 million households with the total amount reaching 300 million euros, compared to 174 million euros in 2021.
- Personal Difference Allowance: Will be granted to retirees who will not get raises on January 1, 2024.
- Reduced VAT rates: Extension until June 2024 of reduced VAT rates on package tourism, transport, catering (coffee, non-alcoholic drinks) and culture.
In any case, the content of the Prime Minister’s announcements is evaluated daily and final decisions will be made a few hours before the start of the TIF and after the finalization of the budget data for August and of course the data from the course of tourism, the best month next year.
