The well-known actor Akis Sakellariou announced his candidacy with the Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas in the Region of Central Macedonia with his post on social media.

Akis Sakellariou clarified that his participation is not related to issues of political identity but only to culture “I was and remain a conscript in the art of theater and cinema” he adds.

Many years ago, I left my hometown of Thessaloniki for America to follow a dream: to study and maybe I’ll succeed – carried away by my youthful urge – to act in some film production there. A few decades later, this dream took shape, not in America, but in Thessaloniki itself, playing as an actor in a big Hollywood-style production.

Having experienced this experience, I could not but accept the proposal of the Governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas: To contribute with my experience to the preservation and why not to the growth of an extroverted cultural policy that has to do with the projection of my special homeland at home but also abroad. The proposal concerns the active work of the film office. The office founded by Ap. Tzizikostas and his colleagues to facilitate the audiovisual projects that are implemented in the region.

By taking part in the multi-level and multi-dimensional party structure of Solidarity and despite the differences in the ideological landscape, the proposal of Rep. Tzitzikostas gives me courage and arms me to risk with all my strength to put a stone in the so fragile cultural period of the Center. Macedonia and our beloved Thessaloniki.

I would like to clarify that this movement and my participation does not mean dealing with issues of political identity but only with culture. I was and still am conscripted in the art of theater and cinema.
